International Newcastle is a Community Interest Company, established in 2012, following discussions with partners across the City about the need for greater capacity to support internationalism.

The company is governed by the IN Board, which consists of key partners within the city, who oversee the direction and activities of the company.

The company objectives are to carry on activities which benefit the community and in particular:

  • To increase social, educational, economic and other opportunities and life chances for people living, working or studying in the City through the promotion of international communication, interactions, understanding and opportunities
  • To foster better social inclusion and community relations and combat discrimination in the City through the encouragement of interaction between communities, international awareness and wider world view
  • To improve economic and social well-being of those who live, work in or visit the City by contributing directly or indirectly to more tourism and inward investment and an increased international profile of the city
  • International Newcastle’s role and activities have changed over the years, but its focus from 2019 is on developing an international city plan and partnership.
